ParaGuard sounds awesome because it lasts for 12 years. I don't want kids at all, and if I thought I could go to a doctor and ask them to remove my uterus completely and they actually would, that's the option I would go for. The thing that concerns me with Paraguard is that I do have some sensitivity to metals. It's not formally diagnosed, but cheap earring (like from Claire's) irritate my piercings. I've had better luck with white gold studs, but my white gold class ring brings about a sort of rash that feels like the ring is eating away at my skin. Now, like I said this isn't formally diagnosed, but I don't know if all metals irritate my skin or if its just questionable jewelry. I'm also not a big fan of the heavier, more crampy menstrual cycles. My cycle is bearable, but its fairly heavy and not so crampy, but I don't want to situation to get any worse.
I'm a little leery of the hormones in Mirena. I know its fairly low dose hormones, and I've never had any ill effect from HBCs (I took Ortho TriCyclen Lo for about a year when I started college and I could never remember to take the pills). The lighter to no period sounds great, but like I said, I don't have any major issues with my period now.. I just don't want it to get worse. Mirena last five years and that's great too, but the 12 years for ParaGuard just sound fantastic.
So now I've worked myself into a circle. I'm going to call my insurance tomorrow and find out if there are any differences in price for the two devices... maybe that will be the deciding factor. Until then, any advice?
