Why are they called coils?

They are t-shaped(or that one that implants in the uterine wall is like a string with beads on it, gynefix?) not coil or spiral shaped.

Paragard looks like it might have copper coiled on the stem of it, but I've seen people refer to mirena as a coil and it doesn't have any part coiling.

48 hr update

Just a quick update, I'm 48ish hours (well 54 to be exact) post insertion of my Mirena.

Stopped spotting all together by Wednesday morning. Feeling pretty normal, a little twinge here and there and a slight sensation of fullness in my abdomen. I am finishing my ortho tri cyclen per instructions. Period expected next Wednesday so we'll see how that goes.

One other thing, my appetite is minimal so far. I seem to be getting full quicker and staying full longer. I almost hope that stays but who knows :) (it would certainly help keep me from snacking too much!)
