New Skyla IUD insertion experience!

Hi! I’m 24, NP, and just got my Skyla IUD. I thought I would post about my experience since the many posts I read in my nervous pre-insertion phase were incredibly helpful, but there’s not that much out there on Skyla yet! I went into this having done a lot of research on IUDs and read a lot of posts on this site, as well as all over the internets. I ended up deciding to choose the Skyla for many reasons. Mainly, I had a bad experience with hormonal birth control pills (awful mood swings, depression, weight gain) and had been off of them for a couple of months. My periods are awful (soaking a super tampon in a few hours for days, debilitating cramps), and so I wasn’t thrilled about the idea of the copper IUD, but I also wasn’t thrilled about a hormonal IUD. I talked to my gynecologist, and she and I agreed that Skyla was worth a shot, since the hormones are so low-dosage and are so localized. So I went forward, reading everything that I could, and I’m excited about what it will hopefully mean for me! (i.e., years of protection, lighter periods, and the freedom of spontaneity).

I’m so excited to start my life with an IUD! If a week of cramping and pain is all I have to deal with (so far, no spotting, only slightly long period, etc.), I will be thrilled.
