Skyla IUD!

Hey Gang!
I am new to the IUD community but I thought I should post because I got the newest IUD, Skyla! I noticed there isn't a lot of talk about it in this community so I wanted to chime in :)

I am a early 20's, no children, and I really dislike hormones so I wanted to give Skyla a shot because it has the lowest dosage. I was thinking about Paraguard but having no hormones at all kinda scared me - if it slipped out of place I wouldn't be protected etc... The reason I wanted to get an IUD was because I am a performer and I just booked an amazing job on a cruise ship that is going all over the world and I wouldn't be able to receive a month pill (no pharmacy on a boat...) I started looking into my options and IUD's sounded perfect. When I met with my gyno she recommended Mirena to me but then also added that there was a newer, smaller IUD made by the same company that made Mirena. She also had said that she took part in the study and testing of Skyla and that she had a lot of practice with the product, which made me confident that she knew a little bit more about it and thought it was a good choice for me.

The insertion was seriously painful. My period had been really wacky so I didn't wait till my period (because I haven't had it since February). I took a hefty dose of Ibuprofen (1200mg - maybe a little overkill) but it still was extremely uncomfortable. Worst part was when she measured my uterus and then when she was using the sounding device to insert the IUD, but that only lasted maybe a minute or so.
For the rest of the day I was pretty crampy. Not HORRIBLE but not great. No bleeding or anything like that. I was a little nervous going to the bathroom, I thought I may push it out of place or something... lol

I'd have to say Day 2 in the morning was the worst of my cramps but only lasted 15 mins and then they died down.

Day 3- I worked out for the first time since insertion, felt fine! I finally got the courage to check my strings in the shower. MAN are they far up there. It took me a couple tries to find them but eventually I did - thank god- I was getting a little nervous.

Today is Day 4- a few cramps this morning on my right side. Hoping this is normal and that it hasn't migrated or anything. I made an appointment to get my strings checked by my doctor in 3 weeks just to give it some time to settle in.

I will keep you all updated as time goes on.

Anyone else have weird cramping on a specific side? I think it may be in my head because I am so nervous of it moving around in there. Also my boyfriend and I will probably start having sex soon... maybe tmi but I like being on top and sometimes he goes pretty deep... could that possibly move the IUD or push it out of place? I just want to make sure its ok up there, haha. I get so paranoid. Let me know ladies!!!

So excited to be a part of this community! I read a ton of your posts when I was trying to decide which one to get! Hope my post helps anyone thinking about getting an IUD. Smooth sailing so far :)

Is it normal to only cramp on one side?

I have had Mirena for 2 months. On occasion, I experience the odd cramps (on a few occasions after sex, but they also sometimes happen out of nowhere). What is concerning to me is that the cramps only happen on my left side. They hit on the lower left side, like right near were my leg joins my body. Its beginning to make me thing that perhaps the IUD is not in correctly (although I can feel the strings and everything appears to be in place). Has anybody else experienced this? I feel so odd because its only on one side.

How often do you check your strings?

I'm just curious to see how frequently you all are checking your strings.  I did not include IUD type since they all have some sort of string, and I'm really interested in seeing how string checking may or may not change based on how long you've had your IUD.
