IUD Insertion

Well, today was the day of my Mirena insertion.

I'll go scene by scene.

[A recap: 18, NP, no previous birth control]

Today was the second day of my period so I made an appointment today for 3:40 to get my Mirena inserted, and my doctor's nurse said they'd have to get the Mirena from a different clinic... luckily it got there before my appointment.

An hour before my appointment, I took three ibuprofen and two tylenol, and ate an apple to settle my stomach. I drank a fair amount of water beforehand, too.

I checked into the clinic and was told to pee in a cup for a pregnancy test. I, of course, couldn't pee for the life of me (even though I drank a lot of liquid before)... I finally managed to get a little out, and apparently it was enough.

I was then told to go to a clinic room and they checked my blood pressure and pulse and temperature. Then, the nurse told me to strip from the waist down and she left me to my business.

My doctor and her nurse came in and told me to lay back and relax and put my feet in the stirrups. They told me what they were going to do, and then they talked me through the procedure. First, the speculum was inserted- this just felt weird. It didn't hurt. Then, they used a tenaculum to stabilize my cervix. This stung and pinched a bit, but it wasn't terrible. Then, the sound went in, and I felt like I was going to die. It was a 10 on the pain scale. I started sweating and almost cried and it was bad. Then, she took it out and put in the Mirena applicator. I didn't feel this at all, which was good. Then, everything was done.

I got up immediately and dressed, and other than a few cramps here and there (which feel like my period cramps) I'm good.
