I took 1000mg of Ibuprofen 30min before I arrived. I got my period when I was 11 and had horrible cramps until I was 15 and started hormonal birth control; but they didn't feel anything like this...its very weird to describe. I guess its so unnatural that your body reacts very defensively.
First is the sounding, measuring your uterus. That part for me was bearable. I felt it go in my cervix and it pinched but it didn't necessarily hurt, just uncomfortable. Focusing on your breathing helps.
Next is the actual insertion. Ouch. It does only last 20 seconds max but omg. Like I said your cervix doesn't like things going in it and mine pretty much tried to clench shut but it couldn't because I'm pretty sure they have something holding it open a little (my butt succeeded clenching). So after 20 seconds of shocking, pinchy pain that reverberated all the way down to my toes it was over.
I had aching wavelike cramps for a couple hours after then they faded away. I had just finished my period a couple days before insertion and after I had slight spotting for 3 days after. Slight bloated feeling and mild cramping every now and then but that's it. Ibuprofen helps.
Up until last night, after the spotting I had no symptoms. My bf and I had sex a couple times and everything was fine, he said he barely felt the strings and they didn't bother him and it didnt hurt me at all. But last night I had very very bad contraction like cramps that woke me up. I felt faint and I've never fainted before. I don't know if it was because I masturbated a couple hours before. (I hadn't orgasmed since I got it inserted because my bf didn't last very long because I guess he was so relieved I couldn't get pregnant) Is this the pain after sex people talk about? Did the waves of my orgasm upset the paragard placement temporarily? Idk guess I'll find out next time I'm horny.
Anyway, first hiccup with Paragard. Nothing serious though. I go in for my one month follow up February 12th and I hope she ultrasounds me and tells me its still in place.
